Project Entries

Hello Everyone

You should all now have the application form and confirmation of acceptance.

My apologies for the confusion over the application form - this was due to some IT problems at my school.

Please make sure that you submit the form and confirmation to your local agency by February 19th. This is very important - Comenius does not accept late entries.

The successful projects will be announced on July 1st.

Meanwhile, we should assume that our project will be successful - and we should be planning to integrate the plan agreed at the preliminary meeting into our schemes of work for next year. Shaun, for example, will be holding a meeting at Varndean with the team of eight teachers who have volunteered to lead our project. In addition, we will be meeting with the PE department to look at introducing the seven new sports into our PE curriculum. I'm pleased to say that we have also been awarded £1,000 (Euro 1200) by our national government to help us to do this.

Elena - you will be pleased to know that amongst the 15% of our students who are from overseas, Romanians are the third biggest group!

Fisrt Day PREPARATORY VISIT in Romania

Hello Everyone ,

We already had a first meeting with Belgium and Romania

Could you to give comments on the things we already discussed ?

We don`t want to rush you or the other partnerschools but it would be nice to have some comments by tomorrow morning so we could take notice of the things you don`t like or want to change.
1)We agreed to meet each other 4 times per year because there are 9 schools (2 in Roemenia) and that way we would be able to see each country.

This is the planning so far:

YEAR 2010-2011:
- first meeting from the 25th till 30st of Oktober 2010

- second meeting from 7th till 12th of of February 2011

- third meeting from 21st till 26th of March 2011

- fourth meeting from the 9th till the 14th of May 2011

YEAR 2011-2012: - first meeting from the 10th till 16th of Oktober 2011

- second meeting from 6th till 12th of of February 2012

- third meeting from 19th till 24th of March 2012

- fourth meeting from the 7th till the 13th of May 2012

We though it would be a good idea to go to 2 eastern and 2 western european countries each year.

We still have to decide together when it would be the most convenient for each country to host a meeting. Could everyone have a look and maybe send us by tomorrow when they could have the hosting?

2) At the beginning of the first year we would make a film of the typical sport in each country and send it to each other via email and the blog before the first project meeting.

3) We thought it would be the easiest to let the teachers decide which students can come to the meetings based on social skills, being good at English and being good at sports.

We also agreed to bring only 2 students per meeting because if we come with 8 countries it will be already hard enough to find hosting families for all of them. We will go for 24 mobilities: 8 countries to visit x 3 teachers = 24 mobilities.

And maybe we can ask students to pay for the trip or a country could come with less teachers ( every school has to look at that seperately)

4) As an end product we would like to have a booklet with a presentation of the schools and countries, all the sports, presentation of the rules, pictures, mascottes,..

We ( the belgians) were thinking about having a sportsshow at the end of the second year to show everything we have done in those two years to parents and press and colleagues in presence of all the delegations so maybe we could have the last project meeting in Belgium

5) In each project meeting we would present the sport of the hosting school and a popular folk game and learn it to the students.

After that the pupils will have to learn the sport in the own schools.

Thank you,
Elena, Martine and Sara

Follow-Up to The Meeting

Hello Everyone

One or two people have asked me what happens after the meeting.

Elena will send to me a report on the meeting and I will then complete the application form. Varndean School is technically the lead school on the project although we are much more democratic than that - and in practice, Elena leads the project in terms of the academic content.

I will then send a copy of the application to everyone within ONE WEEK. This will then need to be translated into your local language - but not changed in any way - and sent to your local agency by Feb 19th (in most countries - please check with your local agency)

Let Elena and I know when you have sent it - and also the response that you get - which is usually about 6-8 weeks later,

Andrew
